HEB Handheld Electronic Reader Experiment

ACLS Humanities E-Book has designed a survey to test the viability of presenting titles from our online collection in new formats for use on various handheld e-book readers, including the Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader, and Apple iPhone. Your participation will help us to gather valuable feedback on the use of scholarly titles on handheld devices.

The survey is now closed. The overall results and analysis will be made available in a subsequent white paper.

Instructions for Specific E-Reader Devices:

  • Sony Reader: Click on “ePub format” link in table below to download file to your computer's eBook library for subsequent transfer to your Reader.

  • Amazon Kindle: Title must be downloaded directly to your Kindle using your device's built-in browser. On your Kindle, open “Menu,” “Experimental,” “Basic Web”; then enter the URL for the current page (http://www.humanitiesebook.org/handheld.html), click on “prc (MOBI) format” in the table below and confirm the download. The downloaded title will subsequently appear listed on your “Home” screen.

  • Apple iPhone: Title may be imported directly to your device using the Stanza App (available as a free download from the iPhone App Store or http://www.lexcycle.com). In Stanza, access your Online Catalog. At the bottom of the page, hit the plus sign and select “Add Web Page.” Enter a name to identify the new page and the URL for this page (http://www.humanitiesebook.org/handheld.html), then click “Save” in the upper right corner. Open this page in Stanza by selecting it from the Online Catalog list, then click on “ePub format” link in table below to download a file. The downloaded title will subsequently appear listed on the main Library page in Stanza under Recent Downloads.
