Description:
A major initiative, offering online hundreds of historical works of a very high quality, exclusively in English (numerous translations are included, with only three titles in French and one in Italian), published from the beginning of the 20th century until a very recent date, covering all time periods. In the near future, the project will also publish original works, only available online.
Our Opinion:
The titles have been chosen with great care and an eye toward balancing American and European history. The sum of presently available works and forthcoming titles makes this collection an ideal resource for English-speaking historians. Unfortunately, these riches are only accessible through libraries subscribing to the project—at the moment [December 2002], this includes one hundred institutions, mostly American. The subscription rate varies depending on the size of the institutions, from $1,300 to $300 a year.
