The following lists, more than 1,700 titles in all, represent the total number of books online as of January 2008 on the HEB site. These books are listed here in general categories, broadly based on the American Historical Reviews categories for book reviews, and can be viewed by either publication date or author.
Several new categories have been added since HEBs initial launch in September 2002, including Caribbean, Comparative/World History, Latin American History, African Studies, Asian Studies, Byzantine Studies, Australasian/Oceanian History, and Native Peoples of the Americas. New subject categories, as well as approximately 500 titles in all categories, will be added to HEB each year in subsequent rounds.
As part of its role as a portal to the best digital scholarship in the humanities, HEB also makes available several important online series in cooperation with publishers and learned societies. These can be searched either as distinct series on our search page or by individual title within the HEB collection. These series currently include:
Titles with Unidentified Copyright Holder (Orphan Works)
HEB has made every effort to obtain electronic rights from the copyright holder. However, HEB was unable to identify or locate the copyright holder for a number of books (List of Books with Unidentified Copyright Holder). If you are able to provide information on the copyright holder of any of these titles please notify us as soon as possible at General Inquiries.
If you would like to recommend a book of high quality and lasting merit in the humanities, please e-mail us with the title, author, publisher, and publication date, as well as your name, position, and affiliation. All recommendations will be added to our list for the next round of review.
