Title Recommendation

Humanities E-Book is unique not only because of our affiliation with the American Council of Learned Societies, but because how carefully we work with individual scholars and scholarly societies to curate our collection.  Every title comes recommended by members of the scholarly communitiy or society members. It means more work developing our collection and strategies, but also means our users know they are only getting premiere titles.  If you want to recommend a title for HEB’s collection, please fill out the form below.

American Sociological Association

As the national organization for sociologists, the American Sociological Association, through its Executive Office, is well positioned to provide a unique set of services to its members and to promote the vitality, visibility, and diversity of the discipline. Working at the national and international levels, the Association aims to articulate policy and implement programs likely to have the broadest possible impact for sociology now and in the future.

Modern Language Association of America

The Modern Language Association (MLA) promotes the study and teaching of languages and literatures through its programs, publications, annual convention, and advocacy work. The MLA exists to support the intellectual and professional lives of its members; it provides opportunities for members to share their scholarly work and teaching experiences with colleagues, discuss trends in the academy, and advocate humanities education and workplace equity. The association aims to advance the many areas of the humanities in which its members currently work, including literature, language, writing studies, screen arts, digital humanities, pedagogy, and library studies.

Society for Ethnomusicology

SEM is a U.S.-based organization with an international membership of approximately 1,750 individuals dedicated to the study of all forms of music from diverse humanistic and social scientific perspectives. We examine music as central to human experience throughout space and time, and explore its profound relationship to cognition, emotion, language, dance, visual arts, spiritual belief, social organization, collective identity, politics, conflict and peace, economics, the physical body, and mental health. Through SEM programs and the work of our individual members, we seek to advance academic and public understanding and appreciation of music as a cultural phenomenon of unlimited variety and as a resource that is fundamental to the wellbeing of individuals and communities.

“ACLS Humanities Ebook(s) provides an affordable subscription for institutions that need to fill in a gap for Arts and Humanities related research assignments. It also has a lot more stability with respect to dependable titles that will stay in the collection and especially has the status of providing seminal academic titles that remain timely to students and instructors years and even decades later. The database also appears to be, for the most part, user friendly to our students. It fills in a gap and need for scholarly material at the right price!”
